St. Hyacinth Basilica Nave Window Restoration
In 2024, Baltic Art Studio undertook a significant restoration project for two nave windows at St. Hyacinth Basilica, located in Chicago, Illinois. This project highlights the studio’s commitment to excellence in preserving historic stained glass art.
Restoration Process
The stained glass windows were carefully removed from their frames and transported to Baltic Art Studio’s workshop. Upon arrival, each piece was meticulously documented and photographed to ensure the accuracy of the restoration process.
Repair and Reconstruction
Baltic Art Studio technicians skillfully replaced broken glass panes, ensuring the restored windows maintained their original aesthetic and structural integrity. A particularly noteworthy aspect of the project was the contribution of Mika Bronx, a talented artisan from the studio. Mika demonstrated exceptional skill and expertise by creating precise replicas of missing glass elements.
To replicate the intricate designs, Mika employed a challenging silver stain painting technique. This method required advanced knowledge and a high degree of craftsmanship to match the original artwork’s intricate details and luster. Her dedication ensured that the new glass pieces seamlessly blended with the existing design, achieving a perfect visual harmony.
