Baltic Art Studio Workshop Safety Guidelines
Welcome to Baltic Art Studio.
Your safety is our highest priority. Please read these guidelines before participating in any stained glass workshop.
Personal Protective Equipment
For your safety, all participants must:
- Wear closed-toe shoes. Sandals, flip-flops, and open-toe footwear are not permitted.
- Wear comfortable clothing suitable for an art studio.
- Tie back long hair.
- Avoid loose sleeves, scarves, necklaces, or dangling jewelry.
- Wear safety glasses whenever instructed. Safety glasses are provided.
Working with Glass
Glass edges are extremely sharp.
Please:
- Handle glass carefully at all times.
- Follow instructor demonstrations before using any tools.
- Do not attempt techniques that have not been demonstrated.
- Notify an instructor immediately if glass breaks or if you are injured.
Soldering & Lead Safety
Stained glass construction involves soldering and the use of lead-containing materials.
To minimize exposure:
- Do not touch your face while working.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before eating, drinking, or leaving the studio.
- Do not eat or drink in the work area.
- Keep food and beverages away from worktables.
- Perform soldering only as instructed.
Chemicals
Workshops may involve the use of:
- Flux
- Patinas
- Cleaning compounds
- Glass cleaners
Avoid skin and eye contact.
If any chemical contacts your skin or eyes, notify an instructor immediately.
Pregnancy & Medical Conditions
Because stained glass workshops involve lead, solder, and other chemicals, anyone who is pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or has medical concerns should consult their physician before participating.
Please inform your instructor of any medical condition that may affect your ability to participate safely.
Studio Rules
To help maintain a safe studio environment:
- Follow all instructor directions.
- Use tools only for their intended purpose.
- Keep your workspace organized.
- Report damaged tools or equipment immediately.
- Respect fellow participants and shared studio equipment.
Age Requirement
Participants must be at least 14 years old, unless otherwise approved by Baltic Art Studio.
Participants under 18 may be required to attend with a parent or legal guardian, depending on the workshop.
Injuries
Minor cuts may occasionally occur while working with glass.
A first aid kit is available in the studio, and instructors can assist with minor injuries.
Please notify an instructor immediately if you are injured.
Acknowledgment
By attending a Baltic Art Studio workshop, you acknowledge that stained glass is a hands-on craft involving sharp glass, hot soldering equipment, lead, chemicals, and specialized tools. You understand these inherent risks and agree to follow all safety instructions provided by Baltic Art Studio staff throughout the workshop.
